As a Clinic Assistant, your workdays will be varied and engaging. You may be heavily involved with patient registration and clerical support one day, while the next you’ll be escorting patients to exam rooms and guiding them through the continuum of care. Responsibilities
The Clinic Assistant MA participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of a physician. In addition, offers complex, diversified office support within the clinic setting. Provides a variety of key services guiding the patients through the continuum of care between physician services, diagnostic services and hospitalizations Requires advanced administrative skills and knowledge of physician outpatient clinic operations, knowledge and experience with insurance plans and benefit designs, and pre-authorization procedures, and some knowledge of CPT and ICD coding. Work is generally performed independently requiring judgment and problem-solving skills under limited supervision.
Qualifications
Education:
Completion of a medical assistant program or successful completion of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, or higher education (such as LPN or RN).
Experience:
Experience as a back office medical assistant in a clinic setting. A minimum of three years of progressively more responsible health care experience or equivalent education in at least one of the following areas required:
Patient Registration
Medical Records/Health Information
Clerical support experience
Insurance Verification/Authorization/Referrals
Skills:
Advanced skill with appropriate computer systems and software packages.
May require ability to transcribe reports, forms, and correspondence, including the use of technical and medical terminology, from longhand or dictation.
Ability to compose routine correspondence and reports.
Ability to edit documents for grammar, punctuation, etc.
Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
Time management and organizational skills.
Ability to withstand varying job pressures and effectively prioritize related tasks. Demonstrated interpersonal and effective communication skills that promote cooperation and teamwork.
Ability to work with credibility and effectiveness with medical and administrative staff.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work with confidential information.
Licensure
Washington and Oregon:
Current American Heart Association approved CPR certification required.
MA certification required upon hire, or within one year of hire, from either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the National Healthcare Association (NHA) or higher (such as LPN or RN). AAMA preferred. Certification may be required upon hire, depending on the needs of the department.
Washington Only:
Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant-Certified or Interim Medical Assistant-Certified required, including completion of required Washington State AIDS training (including those who float into the role). Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist required for all employees who perform phlebotomy in the State of Washington (including those who float into the role).
Pay Range
