    Frequently asked questions

Unlike standard HVAC technicians, a Lead HVAC/R Coordinator oversees multiple refrigeration and HVAC systems across locations, manages work orders via platforms like ServiceChannel, and coordinates with providers to optimize system uptime, blending hands-on technical skills with supervisory and logistical tasks.

Prospective coordinators should master supermarket-specific refrigeration like rack and frozen cases, be proficient with Emerson controllers and CO2 systems, and develop troubleshooting expertise for both mechanical and electrical HVAC components, essential for minimizing downtime in fast-paced retail settings.

The coordinator ensures smooth refrigeration and HVAC functionality across stores by performing timely maintenance, managing refrigerant usage, optimizing equipment settings remotely, and collaborating with service providers, all crucial for maintaining store operations and reducing costly equipment failures.

Individuals can advance into managerial roles focusing on HVAC operations management or specialize in controls engineering, leveraging their technical knowledge and leadership experience to oversee larger teams or more complex HVAC/R systems within retail or commercial sectors.

Besides the universal EPA refrigerant certification and HVAC/R certifications, Denver employers often value experience with Trane equipment and familiarity with local safety codes, which improve a candidate’s competitiveness due to regional compliance and equipment prevalence.

Salaries for this position range from $80,000 to $110,000 annually in Lakewood, aligning well with regional averages for HVAC management roles, reflecting the specialized skills required for supermarket refrigeration systems and multi-site coordination.

Lakewood's proximity to Denver metro allows manageable travel between stores, but peak traffic hours can extend commute times. Efficient route planning and company support for travel logistics are vital to ensure timely maintenance and emergency response.

With growing demand for skilled HVAC/R technicians familiar with supermarket refrigeration, competition is moderate, especially for roles requiring advanced certifications and multi-site management experience, making specialized skills a key differentiator.

Natural Grocers fosters an inclusive, health-focused environment valuing diversity and collaboration. Coordinators engage closely with cross-functional teams and service providers, supporting a culture that prioritizes wellbeing, sustainability, and continuous learning.

Natural Grocers empowers coordinators to evaluate service proposals and manage refrigerant usage meticulously, enabling informed decisions that minimize equipment downtime and warranty costs, reflecting the company's commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.
