Job Summary
Successfully interviewed and selected by the University of Mary to support the Division of Nursing faculty in driving nursing practice and education by cultivating hands-on practice experiences for nursing students during their on-site clinical rotations. Promotes excellence, as a frontline nurse leader, in clinical nursing care and contributes to the professional growth and development of University of Mary nursing students, in collaboration with CHI St. Alexius Health. Upholds and promotes the Christian, Catholic, and Benedictine mission of the University of Mary and CHI St. Alexius Health. Builds a culture of ready and earnest hospitality in the Saint Gianna School of Health Sciences/Division of Nursing in accordance with the Saint Benedict admonition of “Let All Be Received as Christ”.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Welcomes and orientates University of Mary nursing students to the layout and organization of the nursing practice setting.
- Attends the University of Mary ACE Preceptor Onboarding training.
- Cultivates hands-on practice experiences for nursing students in the respective care setting.
- Models standards of professional nursing practice by acting as a role model, clinical nursing expert, change agent, mentor, and leader to University of Mary and CHI St. Alexius Health nursing division.
- Utilizes a variety of clinical instruction strategies that challenge student growth in critical thinking and clinical judgment as depicted by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
- Provides on-site clinical instruction for two students while assuming a typical department patient care assignment.
- Provides regular and specific feedback regarding the students’ clinical performances in both verbal and written form to the University of Mary clinical faculty focusing on both strengths and areas of needed growth.
- Attends seminars, conferences, and/or continuing education to maintain currency with simulation technology, as requested.
- Attends University of Mary Division of Nursing meetings, as required.
Required Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree
Required Licensure and Certifications:
- Current unencumbered licensure as Registered Nurse in State of North Dakota
- Basic Life Support
Required Minimum
- Minimum two years of experience in the respective area of bedside nursing
- Formal preceptor training and/or experience in the role of preceptor with evidence of strong performance
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written)
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Knowledge and application of advanced nursing skills
- Ability to critically think in complex situations
