Department Overview

This position provides outpatient clinical care in OHSU’s Center for Women’s Health. The Center for Women’s Health is committed to outstanding patient care. The incumbent must have a strong interest in working in a multi-disciplinary, group practice setting focused on serving the healthcare needs of women. This position will provide team based care with the OB/GYN Generalist Division, and must have confidence in providing general Gynecology and Obstetrics care to patients. In addition to providing clinical care, the instructor will educate fellows, residents and medical students.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as a Physician Assistant (PA), CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) or an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in a respective specialty area; i.e., obstetrics and/or gynecology. The APP is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The APP shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The APP is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.

Function/Duties of Position

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research): This clinician will provide a broad spectrum of general gynecologic care and/or obstetric care, including annual exams and prenatal care. Travel to other clinical facilities around the Portland area may be required.

Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.): Like all OHSU faculty members, advanced practice providers are expected to have some scholarly activity, this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. APP faculty members are sometimes called upon to partner with other providers and members of the department or division research support staff in research activity. APP faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.

Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught): This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in Obstetrics and Gynecology rotations. This position may also help with clinical teaching of nurse and APP trainees. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the outpatient clinic environment, this position would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in obstetrics and gynecology.

Administrative Activities: As an OHSU faculty member this position would be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level. All faculty members are expected to aid the division head and department chair in providing direction to the division and the department both on a day to day basis and as part of ongoing strategic planning and strategic planning.

Other Activities: APP faculty members may be called upon to serve on OHSU committees and in other activities as directed by the department chair or division head in furtherance of division, department, or OHSU goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider role.
  • Current licensure as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider governing board(s) in the state of Oregon.
  • 5 years clinical experience as an APP that demonstrates ability to fulfill responsibilities for Women's Health experience (both Ob and Gyn)
  • Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description.
  • Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Consideration for part-time or full-time work.
