How you make a difference
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) is an entry-level position that provides direct care to a specific patient population. The MHT works under the supervision of the licensed nursing staff and their designees to provide standard and routine psychiatric and medical nursing assistance services. The services are provided as part of the overall plan of care and within the facility's standards, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists licensed nursing personnel with direct patient services, including observing behaviors and activities of daily living, providing assistance and support, and completing assigned tasks.
- Monitors patients placed on suicide watch and takes and records vital signs.
- Participates in specific treatment interventions, such as coping skills and anger management, as assigned.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of therapeutic communication, psychiatric recovery, and rehabilitation skills.
- Maintains professional development through in-service education, workshops, conferences, and self-study to stay current in the field.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- One (1) year direct care experience in a mental health setting.
Licenses/Certifications
- None required.
