Frequently asked questions

Expect to frequently assist residents with mobility tasks such as lifting or transferring, which may require lifting up to 40 lbs. Quick response in emergencies and sustained physical activity during 2pm-10pm shifts are common, reflecting the hands-on nature of nursing assistant roles in senior living communities.

While both roles focus on resident care, a Resident Assistant often emphasizes companionship and support with daily living activities, fostering emotional connections, whereas Licensed Nursing Assistants may perform more clinical tasks. Combining these roles demands both caregiving skills and interpersonal warmth, especially in afternoon shifts.

Keene has a growing need for evening shift nursing assistants due to its aging population and expanding senior living facilities. While there is steady demand, candidates with certification or prior experience in assisted living settings tend to stand out, making the market moderately competitive.

LNA certification is highly regarded locally, but many employers, including American House Senior Living Communities, offer in-house training with competency sign-offs. Given New Hampshire’s healthcare standards, a background check, TB testing, and drug screening are also essential prerequisites.

Afternoon shifts from 2pm to 10pm may coincide with peak traffic times around Keene, potentially elongating commute times. However, the town's compact size and available public transit options can ease travel. Planning ahead is recommended to maintain punctuality.

American House offers shift differentials rewarding afternoon hours, free uniforms and meals during shifts, and paid training including LNA competency sign-off. Additionally, employees receive comprehensive medical benefits, PTO, a 401(k) match, and educational assistance fostering professional growth.

American House emphasizes compassionate care and meaningful resident relationships, backed by long-standing community presence since 1979. Their comprehensive benefits, paid training, and team-focused culture distinguish them from competitors, offering a supportive environment especially for afternoon shift caregivers.

Licensed Nursing Assistants in Keene typically earn between $15 and $18 per hour, with afternoon shifts often attracting premium pay. Considering local cost of living and industry standards, this range aligns with senior living community roles, sometimes supplemented by sign-on bonuses.

Strong interpersonal skills, a genuine commitment to senior care, and physical readiness to assist residents are key. While LNA certification is preferred, American House values experience with seniors and offers in-house training, making attitude and adaptability equally important.

The company fosters a collaborative environment where Resident Assistants participate in team meetings, compliance activities, and ongoing training. This approach ensures caregivers are equipped to maintain resident well-being, promptly report health changes, and align with the community’s compassionate mission.
