Overview
Blythedale’s Infant/Toddler Department is seeking a Unit Medical Secretary Per Diem. In this role, you will serve as the central communication source for the nursing staff and other interdisciplinary team members, patients, residents, and family members. You will assist the Director of Nursing, Nurse Leaders, Physicians and Nursing Staff, as needed. The Unit Medical Secretary Per Diem reports to the Director of Nursing, Infant/Toddler.
Variation of Shifts: Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am.
Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively and accurately with patients, family members, and colleagues.
- Complete detailed work without error and handle several tasks at once.
- Greet patients, residents, families and visitors in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Answers calls coming through the Hospital’s Phone system.
- Create and maintain medical records, process patient admissions, transfers, bed holds, and discharges.
- Process orders relating to medications, laboratory and diagnostic tests, and treatment plans.
- Navigate hospital clinical information systems as needed.
- Order supplies and stock unit as need.
- Assist in the updating and posting of required documentation for display throughout the hospital.
- Assist Nursing Leadership in scheduling.
- Cover hospital units as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of work experience required.
- Medical secretary experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Bilingual speakers (English and Spanish) preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint) and Microsoft Teams required.
- Proficiency in Meditech preferred.
- Knowledge of common medications and medical terminology required.
Education, Licensure, and Certification
- High School Diploma or GED.
Physical Requirements
- Extensive standing, sitting, walking, use of telephones and computer.
