Frequently asked questions

Pediatric emergency nurses in Lincoln face a high-acuity environment, managing critical cases like trauma and stroke in children. This role demands rapid assessment and intervention skills, especially given Lincoln's designation as a Level 3 trauma center with specialized pediatric care units distinct from typical nursing roles.

In Nebraska, certifications such as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and specialty certifications like Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) enhance a pediatric emergency nurse’s qualifications and are frequently preferred by regional employers.

Nurses in this role often juggle urgent care for diverse pediatric emergencies, collaborating closely with specialists and managing complex treatment plans in a fast-paced setting. The presence of advanced technology and multidisciplinary teams adds layers to patient care coordination unique to Catholic Health Initiatives.

Catholic Health Initiatives offers a pediatric universal bed model unit, allowing seamless care across all pediatric levels under one roof, which is rare locally. Their Level 3 trauma center and recognized rapid response times for cardiac events provide a distinct, high-acuity practice environment not common in all Lincoln hospitals.

Yes, the organization offers enticing benefits like a $6,000 sign-on bonus and tuition reimbursement up to $3,000 for part-time nurses, fostering professional growth and easing educational expenses for pediatric emergency nurses committed to advancing their expertise.

Salaries typically combine a competitive base rate with shift differentials reflecting the demanding schedule. Given Lincoln’s market and Catholic Health Initiatives’ nonprofit status, compensation aligns with regional averages, enhanced by incentives like bonuses and tuition assistance to attract experienced pediatric emergency nurses.

Lincoln’s status as a regional medical hub with specialized pediatric emergency services creates robust demand for experienced pediatric emergency nurses, often surpassing smaller cities in Nebraska. The presence of advanced trauma and stroke centers amplifies this need for highly qualified RNs.

Yes, nurses benefit from cutting-edge technology and a collaborative environment with emergency room providers and pediatric specialists, which streamlines diagnostics and treatment but also requires adaptability to fast-changing patient needs and multidisciplinary communication.

Besides active RN licensure and life support certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS), employers value acute assessment abilities, critical thinking under pressure, and effective teamwork, especially given Lincoln’s trauma center demands and the complexity of pediatric emergency care.

The organization prioritizes seasoned RNs, excluding new graduates, reflecting a competitive selection process focused on proven expertise. This selectivity is influenced by the hospital’s high standards and the specialized nature of pediatric emergency care, making experienced candidates highly sought after.
