Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the compilation, analysis, and reporting of financial data. Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of computer systems in analysis and reporting activities. Responsible for preparation of annual budgets using computerized system. Provides work leadership and guidance for less experienced members of finance staff. Organizes and/or serves on committees as appropriate. Interfaces with all levels of leadership.

Responsibilities
- . Responsible for preparation of annual budgets. Works closely with managers and coordinates the work of other accountants in this process. Within budget guidelines, capable of understanding and analyzing statistical and other operational data to determine appropriate budgets for revenue, salary and other expense. Observes and analyzes variances and participates in resolution.
- Responsible for preparing and entering the most complex monthly journal entries into the computerized accounting system. Works with IT to develop, maintain and improve current systems, organizes meetings, committees, and agendas to initiate reviews of and improvements in system control, procedure flow, enhancements, etc. Prepares reports, summaries, and presentations on results.
- Prepares most complex analysis and reviews work of less experienced accountants. Participates in making related financial and business decisions and in management judgment on financial integrity of various cost centers. Performs intensive studies and analysis. Studies and analyzes trends and projections for activities and functions within departments.
- Prepares audit request workpapers and assist less experienced staff.
- Reviews monthly financial reports and prepares initial review data for Director or Manager. Works with department managers and facility leadership to analyze and resolve variances. Prepares reports, summaries and presentations on results.
- Responsible for special non-routine projects and for studying and initiating a variety of new projects in Finance. Coordinates project work and provides direction and leadership. Consults with and serves as resource to Director or Manager.
- Interfaces with a broad range of leadership to advise and consult on business/financial activities and special studies and analyses. Frequently works with outside auditors and bankers and other members of the business community.
- Provides work leadership and direction for less experienced accountants and accounting support personnel. Serves as backup for directors or managers. Coordinates and directs special projects and studies.
- Participates in educational workshops for managers on: budget preparation and variance monitoring; financial operations; reports and analyses; schedules; and related matters.
- Responsible for keeping abreast of developments in financial services. Attends professional/society/business meetings. Participates in in-house training and development activities including service on system-wide administrative and operational committees. Maintains a high degree of on-the-job developmental activities as regards tax, reporting changes, and reimbursement.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
B.S. in Accounting or Finance (or related business degree) from an accredited academic program or Associate’s Degree in Accounting/Business and 10+ years of experience in an accounting position.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Requires an extensive knowledge of general accepted accounting principles and technique.
