Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Resident Care Aide is a member of the resident care team who performs care duties in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Mercy McMahon Terrace as well as its established policies and procedures. The Resident Care Aide is accountable for the day to day care duties in Resident Care. The Resident Care Aide may also assist in resident care or other departmental duties as indicated in the unit specific structure standards.
- Receives report from previous shift and organizes shift assignments.
- Assists residents with: toileting and dressing activities (skin care, bathroom help, weights, etc.), bed making and tidying of unit; eating, unit trays, nourishments. Provides assistance to residents who regularly or intermittently need to use the toilet at night.Cares for, cleans, replaces resident laundry and facility supplies, equipment, appliances, etc.
- Monitors residents remaining in units for temporary illnesses such as a cold, flu, etc. Sees that these residents have trays delivered to them for each meal. Observes, reports, documents any changes noted with resident to Resident Services Manager and /or Director or LVN on duty. Answers emergency call signals. Charts in individual Resident Care Chart when appropriate. Completes incident report when applicable. Informs manager of any charges for any medical supplies given to residents.
- Assists community agencies such as Hospice/Home Care in providing care to residents.
- Assists relatives, visitors and guests and directs requests or concerns to appropriate person.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with other departments. Interact in a supportive, collaborative manner with all MMT team members.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to understand and work with the population of Mercy McMahon Terrace
- Ability to learn and perform resident care procedures according to the approved manual
- Able to understand and follow oral and written procedures and instructions
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
