Candidates must hold an active Oregon medical license to practice, alongside board certification or eligibility in pediatric infectious diseases. Additional credentials like a DEA certificate are required, reflecting state compliance and enabling controlled substance management in pediatric infectious disease treatments.

Unlike general pediatrics, this professor role integrates clinical consultation for infectious disease cases, outpatient clinic management, and on-call duties. Opportunities include advancing clinical trials, securing research funding, and participating in interdisciplinary collaborations. Professors can progress to leadership roles in infection prevention programs or influence public health policies through academic and community outreach at institutions like OHSU.

OHSU’s unique status as Oregon’s sole academic health center means a concentration on cutting-edge research and diverse clinical cases. Its commitment to vulnerable populations and interdisciplinary care provides a broader impact and collaboration opportunities unmatched in many other pediatric infectious disease roles.

Balancing clinical duties with research and teaching responsibilities demands strong time management. Additionally, engaging with diverse patient populations across Oregon and southwest Washington requires cultural competency and adaptability in applying the latest infectious disease prevention methods.

In Portland, such roles generally offer annual salaries between $150,000 and $190,000, reflecting the advanced specialization and academic responsibilities. Compensation packages may also include research funding opportunities and benefits aligned with Oregon Health & Science University’s competitive standards.

The city's bike-friendly infrastructure further supports sustainable travel, making it convenient for medical faculty balancing clinical and academic schedules.

This synergy fosters opportunities for professors to contribute to epidemiology research and public health infectious disease jobs that extend beyond hospital settings.

Yes, OHSU encourages involvement in clinical trials and translational research, offering mentorship and collaborative environments. Early-career faculty and interns can benefit from structured support to build expertise in infectious disease epidemiology and patient care innovations within pediatric specialties.
