Frequently asked questions

A strong background in recruitment combined with familiarity with academic healthcare nuances enhances success in Portland. Proficiency in coordinating multi-stage hiring processes and exceptional interpersonal skills tailored to a university environment like OHSU's Knight Cancer Institute are key assets.

This role focuses on specialized faculty recruitment at a leading cancer institute, blending operational support with candidate engagement, unlike general healthcare recruiting which may prioritize volume or clinical staffing. The hybrid work model and collaboration with senior recruiters also set it apart.

Balancing multiple simultaneous recruitment requests, managing sensitive candidate interactions, and aligning with academic calendars are common hurdles. Additionally, coordinating on-site visits in dual campus locations in Portland demands precise scheduling and adaptability.

Portland's academic market values diversity, inclusion, and a mission-driven culture. Candidates often expect transparent communication and flexible work arrangements, reflecting local work-life balance priorities and OHSU's commitment to an equitable environment.

With Portland's growing biotech and healthcare research sectors, competition for skilled recruitment associates is moderate to high. Specialized roles supporting oncology faculty recruitment at institutions like OHSU attract candidates with niche expertise, making experience a critical differentiator.

At OHSU, the role encompasses not only recruitment logistics but also fostering an inclusive hiring culture aligned with cancer research priorities. The hybrid schedule across South Waterfront and Marquam Hill campuses requires flexibility uncommon in typical recruitment positions.

By supporting recruitment of top-tier faculty and physicians, the associate directly contributes to assembling teams driving cancer research and patient care excellence. This connection to OHSU’s mission ensures recruitment efforts prioritize candidates who align with transformative oncology goals.

Salary typically ranges from $55,000 to $70,000 annually, reflecting Portland's cost of living and specialized recruitment expertise in healthcare academia. OHSU’s compensation aligns with industry norms, often complemented by benefits and flexible work arrangements.

OHSU emphasizes a seamless, candidate-centric approach, including coordinated interviews, personalized on-site visit support, and clear communication. The Faculty Recruitment Associate plays a pivotal role in ensuring applicants feel valued and informed throughout the hiring lifecycle.

Expertise in Microsoft Outlook calendaring, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential, alongside familiarity with systems like Smartsheet, Oracle, and SharePoint. These platforms enable efficient coordination of recruitment workflows and data tracking in a hybrid campus environment.
