Frequently asked questions

This position uniquely blends imaging expertise with interventional procedure support in high-stakes cardiac cath labs and endovascular settings. Unlike general radiologic technologists, it demands proficiency with specialized devices like atherectomy and impella, plus active participation in emergent cardiac events typical in Lexington’s Saint Joseph Hospital environment.

Mastery in operating complex equipment such as c-arm radiation devices and devices like IVUS and OCT sets this role apart. Additionally, rapid clinical decision-making during STEMI or stroke alerts and hemodynamic monitoring are essential skills elevating this technologist within cath lab careers.

Salaries typically range from $65,000 to $85,000 annually in Lexington, reflecting local demand and the advanced skill set required. The $25,000 sign-on bonus and student loan forgiveness offered by Catholic Health Initiatives enhance the total compensation package significantly.

Besides the national ARRT registration, Kentucky licensure (MRAD:KY) is essential. Given Lexington's focus on interventional cardiology, certifications like ACLS within six months and BLS-CPR are highly valued to ensure rapid response capabilities in critical care scenarios.

The role emphasizes compassionate, patient-centered care rooted in Catholic Health Initiatives’ mission. Technologists support families with education on cardiovascular risks and maintain a culture of safety and service excellence, reflecting the organization’s community-driven health values.

Catholic Health Initiatives offers robust opportunities including preceptorship roles, ongoing competency training, and involvement in advanced interventional procedures. Their strong regional presence ensures exposure to varied cases, fostering rapid skill development within a supportive healthcare network.

Saint Joseph Hospital is centrally located, but Lexington’s traffic patterns can vary during peak hours. Candidates often consider proximity or public transportation options. The hospital’s reputation attracts many applicants, so timely arrival and reliable commute plans can enhance job performance.

Lexington’s growing healthcare sector drives steady demand for skilled cath lab technologists, especially those with interventional expertise. While competition exists, incentives like sign-on bonuses and loan forgiveness programs give qualified candidates a competitive edge in securing positions.

Collaboration is key; technologists assist nursing with patient monitoring, aseptic technique adherence, and procedure prep. This integration ensures seamless peri-procedural care, enhancing patient outcomes and aligning with CHI’s interdisciplinary approach to cardiovascular interventions.

High-pressure situations like STEMI or stroke alerts require immediate equipment readiness, critical thinking, and swift operator actions. Balancing radiation safety with rapid intervention, while coordinating with surgeons and cardiologists, demands both technical proficiency and composure under stress.
