Dallas’s healthcare sector is growing, but hospital pharmacist positions remain competitive due to strong local demand. Candidates with advanced credentials or residency experience often stand out, especially for inpatient rehabilitation settings like Select Medical, where specialized skills in neurological and trauma care are valued.
Beyond state licensure, Dallas employers often prefer pharmacists with BLS certification and credentials like PharmD or hospital residency completion. These qualifications demonstrate readiness to manage complex drug therapies common in inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, helping candidates excel in settings such as Select Medical.
Pharmacists in inpatient rehab focus heavily on clinical drug therapy monitoring, IV admixture, and interdisciplinary collaboration, unlike retail roles which emphasize dispensing and customer counseling. This specialized environment demands deep pharmaceutical knowledge to support patients recovering from neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Pharmacists at Select Medical benefit from structured orientation, tuition reimbursement, and continuing education, paving the way for professional growth. Advancement may lead to clinical specialist roles or management opportunities within hospital pharmacy departments, especially with additional qualifications or residency experience.
Daily duties include overseeing drug distribution, ensuring adequate inventory, providing clinical support, educating patients on post-discharge medications, and engaging in quality improvement initiatives. The pace is fast and requires precision, especially in a rehabilitation hospital serving complex cases.
Select Medical offers comprehensive health benefits including medical, vision, dental, and employee assistance programs. Generous PTO and paid sick time encourage a balanced lifestyle, essential for pharmacists working challenging weekend and weekday shifts in inpatient rehab.

Indeed, pharmacists at Select Medical participate in developing and delivering training programs for new employees, enhancing team competence. This mentorship role supports continuous quality improvement and professional growth within the inpatient rehabilitation pharmacy team.
Weekend shifts often demand quick decision-making with limited on-site resources. Pharmacists must be adept at managing drug therapies for complex cases like brain injuries or spinal cord trauma, ensuring seamless patient care continuity despite fluctuating weekend staffing.
Proficiency in IV admixture is critical due to the hospital’s focus on inpatient care requiring precise medication preparation. Candidates familiar with central operations and sterile compounding are better equipped to handle the fast-paced environment and diverse pharmaceutical needs.
