Overview
The full-time Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in all aspects of running the store, including sales and the customer experience, store operations, and visual merchandising efforts.
This role is ideal for a leader who is equally passionate about the customer experience, operational excellence and creating an inspiring, customer-focused shopping environment.
This role will also perform management duties, such as opening and closing the store, leading the store team, and operational and visual merchandising tasks.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development:
- Support the Store Manager in leading daily operations and managing a high-performing team.
- Coach and motivate associates to deliver exceptional customer service and meet sales goals.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training of team members.
Customer Experience & Sales:
- Lead by example on the sales floor, engaging customers and providing personalized service.
- Empower the team to deliver a consistent, elevated customer experience.
- Monitor sales performance and implement strategies to drive conversion and average ticket.
Visual Merchandising:
- Oversee the execution of visual merchandising standards, ensuring the store is inspiring, shoppable, and aligned with brand guidelines.
- Plan and implement seasonal floor sets, promotional displays, and product placement strategies.
- Train and guide team members on visual presentation and product storytelling.
Operations & Inventory:
- Support inventory flow, including receiving, restocking, and inventory accuracy.
- Ensure operational efficiency through task delegation and process improvements.
- Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety and loss prevention protocols.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of retail experience desired, including management experience in multiple visual merchandising, operational and/or customer-facing roles, preferably in the home decor industry.
- Ability to balance duties that relate to sales/Customer Experience, operations and visual merchandising.
- Exceptional leadership with a focus on collaboration and results.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing profitability
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Proficiency in retail management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week, based upon the needs of the business.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and evenings.
- Ability to travel occasionally to the other store locations and the Sales Support Center for meetings
- A valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to ascend/descend a ladder to retrieve and stock products on the shelf or to hang overhead banners/ product.
- Frequently positions self to retrieve and stock products in the stock room and sales floor and to place merchandise in bags.
- Must be able to constantly move around the store for prolonged periods to greet and assist customers.
- Must be able to frequently communicate with the customers in person, electronically, and telephonically.
- Must be able to frequently move merchandise that is 50 pounds or more to and from the stockroom to sales floor.
- Must be able to operate a Point-of-Sale system, registers and handheld devices efficiently and accurately.
