Infectious Disease MD/DO - Assistant Professor

Company : Oregon Health & Science University

Location : Portland, OR, 97201

Job Type : Full Time / Part Time

Department Overview

The OHSU Division of Infectious Diseases is currently comprised of 25 primary and affiliated faculty. The Division’s inpatient clinical activities include 2 adult General ID inpatient consult services and a dedicated Transplant ID consult service, all of which see inpatients at OHSU and the affiliated Portland Veteran’s Administration Hospital, which is physically connected to the OHSU hospital via a skybridge.  The Division also staffs an additional General ID inpatient consult service at Hillsboro Medical Center.  Outpatient clinical activity at OHSU includes a robust OPAT program, general and transplant infectious diseases, an internationally-renowned nontuberculous mycobacteria clinic, and HIV primary care.

The Department of Medicine is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as central to our mission and key components of the success of all that we do. We envision a future where every member of our Department experiences a genuine sense of belonging and contributes to our shared Departmental efforts. We aim to inspire change that reaches beyond our walls — creating ripple effects that encourage systemic health justice locally and globally. We particularly encourage applications from candidates who are underrepresented in medicine or have distinctive characteristics that would enrich and diversify our Department in unique ways.

Function/Duties of Position

You will work as a specialist in Infectious Diseases (ID) within the Department of Medicine, with clinical duties as assigned by the Division Head.  Your clinical responsibilities will include both inpatient and outpatient service. The proportion of service time spent in each of these areas may vary depending on available staffing within the Division. Inpatient consultation time may include general ID consultation services at OHSU the Portland VA, and Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC), and/or an OHSU/VA Transplant ID service - for a total of 19 weeks per year, which includes day, night and weekend coverage. Inpatient consult rotations at HMC and the other services will not overlap.

Outpatient clinical service will be 3 half-day clinics per week while not attending on the inpatient service. Outpatient clinical service may be divided between clinics at OHSU and HMC. You will also be expected to take your fair share of calls, as assigned, with other faculty through the shared coverage of OHSU’s consult line, which provides telephone access to OHSU faculty by practitioners throughout Oregon and the surrounding area.

Additionally, OHSU is a teaching facility, and you will be expected to teach medical students, residents, and ID fellows in the clinical setting, as part of your Clinical duties above, as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year. You may receive teaching assignments from the Division Head, Department, or School of Medicine. You will be expected to develop scholarly activities, to a degree commensurate with the provided level of support, in your area(s) of expertise and interest.
