Frequently asked questions

In Philadelphia, Respiratory Therapist positions typically require both RRT and CRT certifications alongside state licensure, reflecting regional standards. Compared to other cities, Philadelphia emphasizes ACLS and PALS certifications due to its diverse patient demographic, which might not be as stressed elsewhere, impacting hiring competitiveness locally.

Night shifts in Philadelphia's hospitals, especially part-time roles, often demand rapid adaptability to emergencies with less onsite supervision. Respiratory therapists must be skilled in independent decision-making and managing diverse respiratory cases common in urban settings, which can be more intense than daytime roles.

Respiratory Therapists (RRT/CRT) hold advanced certifications enabling them to perform comprehensive pulmonary diagnostics and therapeutic procedures, unlike technicians who assist with equipment and basic patient care. The RRT/CRT's role involves critical assessment and treatment planning, requiring deeper medical knowledge and autonomy.

Philadelphia’s healthcare sector offers diverse advancement paths for Respiratory Therapists, including roles in management, specialized pulmonary care, and educational positions. Experience combined with certifications such as ACLS and PALS can fast-track progression into supervisory or clinical educator roles within community hospitals.

Part-time Respiratory Therapists with RRT/CRT certifications in Philadelphia generally earn between $30 to $40 per hour, influenced by experience and shift timing. Night shifts often carry premium pay rates, reflecting the specialized skills and unsocial hours involved in these positions.

Prime Healthcare Services actively encourages Respiratory Therapists to uphold certifications like BCLS, ACLS, and PALS by providing access to training programs and scheduling flexibility. This commitment fosters continuous professional growth and ensures clinical staff meet evolving healthcare standards.

At Prime Healthcare Services, Respiratory Therapists benefit from a values-driven culture emphasizing compassion and community impact, alongside access to a century-old institution's resources. The blend of historic legacy and modern protocols creates a unique environment compared to other regional employers.

Therapists commuting to Roxborough Memorial Hospital need to consider Philadelphia’s variable traffic patterns, especially during night shifts. Public transit options exist but may be limited overnight, so planning for parking or carpooling is advisable to ensure timely arrival for critical care duties.

Holding both RRT and CRT credentials signals comprehensive expertise, meeting Philadelphia hospitals' rigorous patient care standards. This dual certification enhances employability by demonstrating proficiency in advanced respiratory techniques and foundational care skills tailored to diverse clinical scenarios.

Employers often seek candidates with at least two years of respiratory care experience for part-time night shifts in Philadelphia. This ensures therapists can independently manage complex respiratory cases during less supervised hours, maintaining high-quality patient outcomes in dynamic settings.
