Frequently asked questions

Englewood's proximity to key energy infrastructure and Sargent & Lundy’s specialized Energy & Industrial Group means this role uniquely blends traditional power plant design with cutting-edge decarbonization tech, unlike many positions in other regions that may focus less on renewable integration or advanced carbon capture.

In Colorado's energy landscape, familiarity with state environmental codes and experience in renewable energy projects, especially solar and energy storage systems, are highly valued. Certifications related to electrical design software like MicroStation or AutoCAD, combined with knowledge of local power regulations, enhance employability.

Navigating complex interface points between electrical and mechanical systems in large-scale power plants demands precision. A Senior Physical Designer must adeptly integrate vendor layouts, coordinate conduit routing, and ensure grounding schemes meet stringent safety standards, all while facilitating clear communication across engineering disciplines.

Progression often involves expanding leadership in multidisciplinary projects, mastering advanced physical design tools, and contributing to innovative energy solutions like carbon capture. Sargent & Lundy's culture encourages growth through exposure to cutting-edge technologies and mentoring junior designers, paving the way toward senior engineering or project management roles.

Sargent & Lundy’s commitment to decarbonization and renewable integration offers Senior Physical Designers a rare opportunity to engage in pioneering projects involving hydrogen power and photovoltaic systems, fostering an innovative atmosphere rarely matched by traditional energy firms focused solely on fossil fuel infrastructure.

The company emphasizes leadership in design modification and physical layout accuracy, ensuring Senior Physical Designers oversee detailed cable schedules and conduit routing. Their roles extend beyond drafting, including field walkdowns and vendor coordination, reinforcing a holistic approach that aligns engineering objectives with on-site realities.

The compensation spans from approximately $82,120 to $128,570 annually, reflecting experience and technical expertise. This range aligns with regional market trends for senior physical design roles in energy engineering, paired with a robust benefits package supporting health, wellness, and work-life balance.

Englewood's strategic energy initiatives have heightened demand for seasoned physical designers, though competition remains stiff due to the specialized skill set required. Candidates with extensive experience in power plant layouts and renewable integration enjoy a distinct advantage in this evolving local market.

Sargent & Lundy supports flexible work arrangements alongside comprehensive paid time off, including parental and bereavement leave. Their award-winning benefits prioritize employee wellness, creating an environment where professionals in demanding energy design roles can maintain personal and professional harmony.

Mastery of MicroStation and AutoCAD is vital, as these tools underpin the creation of precise electrical physical drawings for large-scale power projects. Expertise enables efficient development of grounding layouts, conduit routing, and equipment location plans, directly impacting project accuracy and execution speed.
