Responsibilities
AVP, Tech E&O Portfolio Manager will lead strategy, underwriting and portfolio management for Technology E&O and Cyber lines of business. This role is responsible for driving innovation, growth, and profitability in these specialized areas, ensuring alignment with company objectives and compliance. The person holding this position will be considered the expert and trusted advisor to the broader organization for their line(s) of business, as well as a key architect of our underwriting guidelines, appetite, and risk selection criteria – ensuring they evolve with market dynamics and reflect our values of curiosity, agility, and excellence. Creativity and innovation are integral to this position as we look ahead of the curve to meet the rapidly evolving needs of our technology customers.
- Strategic Line Ownership: Serve as the strategic leader for your line(s), accountable for performance, profitability, and underwriting excellence. Develop and continuously refine strategies aligned with BTU’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Objectives & Key Results.
- Portfolio Management: Lead quarterly line performance reviews, identify trends, and recommend actionable insights to improve profitability and growth.
- Underwriting Strategy: Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, appetite, risk selection criteria, and associated documentation (pricing tools, underwriting templates, supplemental applications, etc.).
- Reinsurance Strategy: Manage reinsurance considerations for your line(s), including exposure management, expense optimization, and use of corporate treaties, semi-automatic facilities, and individual placements.
- Training & Quality: Serve as the expert-in-residence for your line(s)—supporting training, conducting underwriting quality reviews, and mentoring underwriters.
- Segment Leadership (optional based on experience): Lead one of our industry segments, overseeing strategy and performance across all lines within that segment.
- Innovation & Agility: Help us operate more like a tech company—leveraging data, automation, and design thinking to challenge traditional insurance models.
May perform other functions as assigned
Qualifications
- 7+ years’ experience in underwriting or product management with a focus in Tech E&O and cyber insurance lines.
- CPCU or other industry designations a plus
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data for decision-making.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage cross-functional teams globally.
- Knowledge of international regulatory environments and technology risk landscape.
- Strong data skills required; advanced Excel, SQL, PowerBI or other skills a plus.
Education
Four-year college degree or equivalent experience
