At Room & Board, we're seeking a Retail Leadership Associate to round out our tenured, operationally strong leadership team in San Francisco. Your primary area of focus will be to foster relationships, mentor staff members, and champion a customer-first culture. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership position in a sales-focused, customer-centric environment. With approximately 65% of leadership time spent on the showroom floor—and 100% on weekends—you'll be a visible, accessible leader who builds trust, fosters relationships, and inspires growth.

Showroom Location: 685 Seventh Street, San Francisco, CA 94103

Store Hours:

Monday - Friday: 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Saturday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Sunday: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Schedule:

Sunday - Thursday, with Fridays and Saturdays off. This schedule is subject to change to meet the needs of the business so flexibility with your schedule is necessary.

How you'll contribute as a Retail Leadership Associate:

  • Lead from the floor, engaging with customers and supporting associates in real time.
  • Coach and develop staff members, fostering personal and professional growth.
  • Champion an extraordinary customer experience by applying strategic insight and building meaningful relationships.
  • Collaborate with fellow leaders to maintain a cohesive, high-performing team.
  • Create engaging showroom experiences, including events that deepen customer relationships and attract new audiences.

What you bring to the role as a Retail Leadership Associate:

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a customer-centric retail environment, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams. Successful Retail Leadership Associates have found that this position offers greater autonomy and the opportunity for more strategic depth compared to traditional store management, with a retail culture designed to be different.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop talent. You are dedicated to enriching the lives of your team by helping them grow both personally and professionally.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a belief that team development drives success.
  • Passion for retail and design, with a hands-on approach to customer engagement and team support.
  • Clear, motivating communication style—setting expectations, offering timely feedback, and recognizing achievements.
  • Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and collaborate on business strategies informed by market trends.
  • Ability to provide proof of identity and legal work authorization upon hire.

What you’ll find as a Retail Leadership Associate:

  • Salary: $90,000 - $105,000 / year, depending on experience.
  • Benefits that focus on holistic well-being. The whole person matters, not just the one who shows up for work. That's why we invest in holistic well-being that supports and encourages you to live a full life. Besides a competitive paycheck, we offer several awesome perks to help you thrive in every aspect of life. Picture this: three weeks paid vacation, a generous 401(k) match, profit-sharing, and a whole bunch of cool extras. And here's something we're especially proud of - we're a 100% employee-owned company. Through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan, every staff member shares in our growth and success. These are benefits that support you physically, emotionally, and financially - from head to toe!

Retail Store Managers often progress by expanding their expertise in multi-store operations or specializing in retail design strategy. Developing robust coaching skills and cross-functional collaboration can open pathways toward district or regional management, focusing on broader business growth.

While no strict certifications are mandated, credentials in leadership, customer experience, or retail management can set candidates apart. San Francisco employers often value training in diversity, equity, and inclusion, reflecting the city’s progressive workforce standards.
