Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a Janitor, your role will be to provide basic and specialty cleaning services to all areas of the hospital, focusing primarily on the operations of heavy mechanical equipment (e.g., scrubbers, buffers, polishers, extractors, wet vacuuming equipment, etc.) used in the cleaning and maintenance of hard and soft (i.e., carpet) flooring surfaces, including stairwells, hallways and public spaces.
You will also work in Specialty Units that includes providing a safe care environment for patients, and staff (visitors as appropriate to setting) within a specialty area (surgical services/perioperative suite, cath lab, endoscopy, etc.) achieved by demonstrating the principles of cleaning, disinfection and quality assurance toward the reduction of harmful pathogens for the benefit of patients, visitors, and staff. Responsibilities may also include work in the Environmental Services Tech I classification.
- Responsible for completing as assigned, performs all types of floor care and maintenance throughout the facility, including hard surfaces and carpeting.
- Cleans and performs routine maintenance on floor equipment; requesting assistance from plant operations and maintenance as needed.
- Performs project work and specialty tasks according to facility needs. Can include tasks such as conference room set up/dismantle according to function sheets and schedules, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains.
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of specialty units & equipment. Areas include but are not limited to Surgical Services, Labor Delivery, Critical Care, Endoscopy, MRI, Trauma, Cath Lab, NICU, Mental Health and Burn Unit.
- Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor saving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.
- Maintains supplies and equipment by properly stocking and restocking environmental services cart in a neat and orderly fashion
- Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e. proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and process, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment and Assists in onboarding new Environmental Services Techs as requested
