Frequently asked questions

Summerton's healthcare sector shows steady demand for Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, particularly in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities. While competition exists, opportunities at organizations like HealthPRO Heritage offer growth potential due to regional shortages of specialized rehabilitation therapists.

South Carolina requires Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants to hold active state licensure, alongside NBCOT certification. Facilities often favor candidates with additional continuing education credits and experience in geriatric care, enhancing their eligibility for roles in local skilled nursing environments.

Mastery in patient-centered care techniques, strong documentation abilities, and effective interdisciplinary communication are crucial. A COTA must adeptly assist with daily living skills therapies and adapt interventions to varied patient needs, ensuring a positive impact on functional independence.

Daily tasks include implementing customized therapy plans, monitoring patient progress, collaborating with physical therapists and nursing staff, and facilitating therapeutic exercises. The role demands flexibility and empathy to support patients' recovery and autonomy in long-term care settings.

COTAs can pursue specialization in pediatrics or geriatrics, transition into occupational therapy roles with further education, or take on supervisory and training positions within therapy teams, especially in organizations emphasizing professional development like HealthPRO Heritage.

HealthPRO Heritage offers continuous education through platforms like CEU360, fosters a collaborative team environment, and encourages input from COTAs in treatment planning, positioning them for career advancement and skill enhancement in a supportive workplace culture.

Employees enjoy competitive hourly wages starting at $32, comprehensive medical and retirement benefits, and access to ongoing professional development resources. The company’s mission-driven approach also delivers a fulfilling work experience focused on compassionate patient care.

Starting at $32 per hour, the pay at HealthPRO Heritage aligns well with national occupational therapy assistant rates, which typically range from $28 to $35 hourly, reflecting the specialized skills and responsibilities required in skilled nursing and long-term care.

While Summerton is a smaller market, several skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers seek Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. Job seekers may find a balance of steady openings with less competition compared to urban hubs, especially with reputable employers like HealthPRO Heritage.

The role offers 30 to 40 hours per week with consideration for weekend availability, enabling COTAs to negotiate schedules that accommodate personal needs while meeting patient care demands in a supportive and collaborative environment.
