Overview
We are seeking a Charge Medical Surgical Nurse (Nights), sometimes referred to as a Med Surge RN at Riverview Regional Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare in Gadsden, AL. The Charge Registered Nurse (RN) is an experienced RN, who in addition to providing direct patient care is accountable for facilitating a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, patient flow, staffing, resource utilization and problem solving for a specific patient care department.
Bonus Options: up to $15,000

Hours: 7:00PM – 7:00AM ($4 to $8 per hour night shift differential)

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):
- Lead clinical team in ensuring high patient and physician satisfaction and provide support through difficult and complex issues.
- Use independent judgment to make effective recommendations regarding the adjustment/resolution of complaints, concerns, and problems of supervised staff regarding work assignments, hours of work, overtime scheduling and other work-related matters.
- Use independent judgment to recommend evaluation results of supervised employees, inclusive of promotion, rewards and recognition, performance improvement opportunities and termination.
- Demonstrate clinical competence utilizing the nursing process (assess, plan, intervention, evaluation).
- Conduct thorough initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health
- Monitor vital signs, intake/output, and other clinical indicators to detect changes in patient conditions
- Recognize and act on warning signs of deterioration, such as changes in heart rate, respiratory rate, or mental status
- Safely administer prescribed medications (oral, IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular) and monitor for adverse effects or allergic reactions
- Act as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure the patient's needs are met
- Provide patient education on their condition, treatment options, and lifestyle adjustments to support recovery and prevent readmission.
- Communicate effectively with doctors, specialists, physical therapists, and social workers to develop and adjust care plans
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
- Current and valid state RN License.
- Current BLS upon hire and maintain current.
- Current ACLS 30 days upon of hire and maintain current.
- Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred. RN-C within 2 years of hire preferred.
- PALS within 30 days of hire for units that admit pediatric patients.
