Frequently asked questions

Reno’s healthcare sector has seen steady growth, increasing the need for skilled respiratory therapists. With several hospitals and clinics, including Prime Healthcare Services, the local demand is robust but balanced, offering ample opportunities without overwhelming competition among respiratory care practitioners.

In Northern Nevada, besides the national Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential, employers highly value Nevada state licensure and Blood Gas Technologist certification. Additional certifications like Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) can enhance employability due to the region’s diverse patient care requirements.

Registered Respiratory Therapists possess advanced clinical skills and certification, enabling them to perform complex pulmonary diagnostic procedures and manage critical care interventions, setting them apart from assistants or technicians who typically support rather than lead respiratory therapy services.

A Registered Respiratory Therapist can progress into specialized roles such as pulmonary diagnostics, neonatal or pediatric respiratory care, and leadership positions like respiratory therapy manager. Continued education and certifications open doors to advanced clinical and administrative opportunities.

In acute care, respiratory therapists handle urgent respiratory support, ventilator management, and patient assessment. Their role demands quick decision-making and adapting treatment plans, differentiating them from outpatient or home health respiratory therapist duties focused on long-term care.

Prime Healthcare Services emphasizes a community-focused approach with comprehensive wellness programs and access to a nationally recognized medical network. Respiratory therapists here benefit from collaborative teams and opportunities to work in award-winning departments with advanced resources.

Prime Healthcare Services encourages professional growth by providing continuing education support and access to training resources. Respiratory therapists aiming to obtain advanced certifications or degrees can find a supportive environment that values skill enhancement and career development.

Registered Respiratory Therapists in Reno typically earn between $60,000 and $75,000 annually, influenced by experience and certifications. This range reflects the region's healthcare market and compares favorably with other Nevada cities, balancing cost of living with competitive compensation.

A respiratory care practitioner often undertakes more technical and supportive roles under supervision, whereas a respiratory therapist is licensed to independently assess, plan, and execute respiratory care. The registered status signifies advanced training and a broader scope of practice.
