Frequently asked questions

Warrensville Heights offers a slightly lower cost of living compared to larger Ohio urban centers, which can impact your take-home pay as a Speech Language Pathologist. The demand here is steady, especially in healthcare facilities like Select Medical, making it a solid choice for SLPs seeking community-focused roles.

While the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA is nationally recognized, local employers in Warrensville Heights often prioritize state licensure and up-to-date BLS certification. These credentials ensure compliance with Ohio regulations and readiness for critical care environments.

Mastering evaluations of swallowing disorders and communication impairments in critically ill patients is crucial. Familiarity with interdisciplinary teamwork and goal-oriented treatment planning enhances effectiveness in hospital-based rehab, elevating patient recovery outcomes.

Absolutely. Obtaining credentials such as the ASHA CCC or specialized certifications in dysphagia or neurogenic communication disorders can distinguish you. These credentials often lead to leadership roles or specialized clinical positions within healthcare systems like Select Medical.

Select Medical emphasizes extensive orientation and promotes career advancement from per diem to full-time roles. They also provide benefits supporting emotional well-being, including an employee assistance program and access to 401k plans, even for part-time staff surpassing 1,000 hours.

Speech Language Pathologists at Select Medical are encouraged to engage actively with rehab teams, participate in peer reviews, and contribute to developing departmental procedures. This collaborative culture fosters professional growth and enhances patient-centered care quality.

The position offers competitive compensation at $52 per hour, reflecting the specialized skills required to support critically ill patients in a hospital rehab setting. This rate is aligned with regional market standards for part-time speech pathology professionals.

A master's degree in speech-language pathology is essential, alongside state licensure. Many also pursue the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence to enhance employability. Foundational coursework includes anatomy, linguistics, and clinical practicum experience.

SLPs in this setting must address complex communication and swallowing challenges, often adapting treatment plans to fluctuating patient conditions. They also monitor rehabilitation progress closely and adjust interventions to support long-term recovery goals.

Demand remains healthy due to ongoing needs in post-ICU recovery facilities. However, competition increases with skilled applicants holding CCC credentials and relevant hospital experience, making continuous professional development a key hiring differentiator.
