Frequently asked questions

Richmond’s healthcare sector shows steady growth, creating consistent opportunities for physical therapists. The city’s aging population and numerous skilled nursing facilities drive local demand, often offering competitive wages compared to smaller towns, though it may slightly trail larger metropolitan areas like DC in volume and pay scale.

Virginia requires a valid state license to practice physical therapy, but additional certifications in geriatrics or neurological rehab can boost employability, especially within skilled nursing facilities. These certifications help therapists meet diverse patient needs and align with Reliant Rehabilitation’s emphasis on clinical expertise.

Physical therapists hold advanced training allowing them to design comprehensive treatment plans, perform patient evaluations, and supervise assistants. Unlike aides or techs, they are responsible for clinical decision-making, adjusting care strategies, and ensuring compliance with state regulations, reflecting higher accountability in patient outcomes.

A typical day involves assessing patient progress, tailoring therapy sessions, supervising PTAs and rehab techs, and collaborating with nursing facility staff. Therapists also manage case documentation meticulously to align with reimbursement policies, all while fostering positive relationships with patients and facility teams.

Reliant offers a clinical ladder program promoting therapists into leadership roles based on performance and continuing education. Therapists can advance into managerial positions or specialized clinical roles, supported by company-sponsored training and mentorship, emphasizing growth within the organization.

Reliant provides flexible scheduling options and PTO buy-back programs, enabling therapists to tailor work hours around personal commitments. This approach, combined with comprehensive benefits, helps maintain a healthy work-life balance essential in demanding environments like skilled nursing facilities.

Physical therapists in Richmond typically earn between $70,000 and $90,000 annually, with variations depending on experience, certifications, and facility type. Reliant Rehabilitation’s competitive pay packages and benefits can further enhance total compensation, especially for therapists with specialized skills or leadership roles.

Some believe physical therapists only conduct exercises, but at Reliant, responsibilities extend to clinical supervision, care planning, and compliance with federal regulations. Therapists actively lead rehab programs, ensuring effective treatment outcomes and facility adherence to health standards.

Reliant emphasizes therapist-led management, offering robust clinical support, continuous education, and career advancement opportunities. Unlike some providers, Reliant encourages leadership development from within, fostering a collaborative environment where therapists influence organizational growth.

Applicants should be prepared for a hands-on role involving patient evaluations, treatment plan development, and overseeing assistants. A strong commitment to quality care, compliance with regulations, and a collaborative mindset align well with Reliant’s therapy philosophy in skilled nursing settings.
