Perioperative Pediatric RNs focus specifically on surgical care phases—pre-op, intra-op, and recovery—requiring specialized skills like airway management and aseptic technique. Unlike general pediatric nurses, they manage high-acuity cases linked to surgery, ensuring patient safety throughout the operative experience.

To work as a Perioperative Pediatric RN in Spokane, holding a valid Washington RN license is mandatory. Certifications like Basic Life Support (BLS) are required, with Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition (PEAR) often expected within the first year.

In Spokane, perioperative pediatric nurses can advance into roles such as charge nurse, clinical educator, or nurse manager in pediatric surgical units. The region’s growing pediatric specialty care sector supports continuous education, opening pathways toward nurse practitioner positions or perioperative nursing leadership.

Spokane exhibits a steady demand for Perioperative Pediatric RNs due to specialized pediatric surgical centers like Shriners Children’s. While statewide needs are higher in urban hubs like Seattle, Spokane offers unique opportunities in pediatric specialty care with less competition, making it appealing for RNs seeking focused perioperative roles.

Shriners Children’s Florida distinguishes itself by providing immediate medical coverage from day one, a 403(b) retirement plan with matching contributions, and robust tuition reimbursement. Their focus on pediatric specialty care fosters a supportive environment emphasizing evidence-based nursing and professional growth.

Hourly pay for Perioperative Pediatric RNs on-call in Spokane ranges approximately from $41.04 to $70.35, reflecting experience and departmental factors. This competitive compensation aligns with the specialized skill set required for managing pediatric surgical patients safely and effectively.

Caring for pediatric surgical patients in Spokane includes managing diverse cases from congenital conditions to trauma, often requiring rapid assessments and interventions. Limited regional pediatric specialty resources sometimes demand adaptability and strong interdisciplinary communication to optimize perioperative outcomes.

Washington state regulations mandate licensure and adherence to defined nursing standards, influencing tasks like IV starts and airway management in perioperative settings. Spokane's facilities often emphasize ongoing certification and compliance with pediatric-specific protocols to maintain high safety and care standards.

On-call Perioperative Pediatric RNs provide flexible, as-needed coverage during surgical cases, requiring readiness to perform assessments, interventions, and patient education under variable schedules. Unlike full-time staff, they may face fluctuating workloads but must maintain equal proficiency in high-acuity pediatric perioperative skills.
