Frequently asked questions
Windsor, CT shows a steady need for physical therapist assistants, thanks to its aging population and active youth sports community. Local clinics, including Select Medical, seek qualified PTAs, but candidates with strong clinical skills and relevant certifications often have an edge in this moderately competitive market.
Connecticut requires PTAs to hold a valid state license and certification from CAPTE. Additionally, CPR certification is often necessary. Local employers may favor candidates with ongoing CEU credits, aligning with state regulations and enhancing patient care quality.
Mastering patient-centered care tailored to diverse age groups, including athletes and seniors, is vital. Proficiency in balance improvement techniques, fall risk reduction, and familiarity with orthopedic rehab protocols are highly valued in Windsor’s outpatient settings.
While PTAs deliver hands-on treatment and assist patients with exercises, licensed physical therapists handle evaluations, develop treatment plans, and supervise PTAs. PTAs in Windsor clinics work closely under PT supervision, focusing on implementing care rather than diagnosis.
Select Medical offers unlimited access to continuing education, national certifications, and an industry-leading CEU program. They also provide an indefinite student debt benefit and annual performance reviews, fostering career advancement for PTA staff.
The primary schedule is Monday through Friday with options for part-time and PRN shifts. This structure allows PTAs to maintain work-life balance while serving a diverse patient population in a dynamic outpatient orthopedic clinic.
Select Medical starts PTAs at $29 per hour, which aligns well with Windsor’s market rates for licensed assistants. Considering the benefits and ongoing education opportunities, the overall compensation package is attractive within Connecticut’s healthcare sector.
A frequent misunderstanding is that PTAs only follow orders without clinical input. In reality, they play a crucial role in patient progress and adapt treatments within their scope under PT supervision, contributing significantly to patient outcomes.
Candidates must graduate from an accredited PTA program, pass the national CAPTE exam, and have or be pursuing a valid Connecticut state license. CPR certification is also mandatory, ensuring readiness to deliver safe and effective patient care.
Select Medical encourages PTAs to maintain strong communication with therapists and patients, fostering a collaborative environment. PTAs are empowered to enhance client relations and contribute to an exceptional patient experience through personalized care.
