Responsibilities
The Executive Underwriter is responsible for managing a book of business within General Casualty, driving revenue growth, profitability, and competitiveness. This role combines technical expertise with leadership, overseeing underwriting activities such as policy applications, renewals, pricing, and risk assessment. The position serves as the primary contact for assigned brokers, promoting business growth, marketing initiatives, and resolving service issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwrite Habitational, Hospitality, Lessor’s Risk Only, and other premise-driven risks.
- Develop pricing strategies and ensure rate adequacy across a large territory.
- Act as a technical expert and referral source on coverage and pricing.
- Build broker relationships and influence business outcomes.
- Train and mentor junior underwriters; lead underwriting teams.
- Identify market trends, coverage gaps, and recommend enhancements.
- Collaborate with claims to integrate trends into underwriting decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Risk Management preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years of General Casualty underwriting experience.
- Strong background in Excess & Surplus Lines and Wholesale Brokerage.
- CPCU, RPLU, ASLI, AU or similar designations preferred.
- Experience writing primary commercial general liability required.
