Position Summary:
This position coordinates and performs both clerical and clinical activities and functions of the Medical Oncology Office.

Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain patient charts to include insurance, registration, correspondence, laboratory and radiology reports, track and request patient records, slides and films; document as necessary in the charts.
- Schedule and coordinate appointments, scans and tests; confirm appointments; notify appropriate departments, in writing, of daily and weekly patient schedules.
- Receive all telephone calls coming into the Medical Oncology office; assist patients, physicians and others with patient-related matters; relay diagnostic test results to patients per physician's discretion; conduct follow-up phone calls to patients with problems and "no-shows".
- Assist physician with procedures such as bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, paracentesis and thoracentesis.
- Perform BP, TPR and weight on each patient; responsible for alerting physician of abnormalities.
- Perform medical history on each patient prior to being seen by physician.
- Prepare monthly statistical data to be reported to Administrator.
- Maintain medical supplies in each exam room and office supplies in clerical area.
- Conduct daily billing of patient accounts via the computer system; work with the Business Office to make adjustments as necessary.
- Monitor patient insurance for hospital admission pre-certification requirements; assist with reimbursement issues as needed.
- Complete forms required for continuity of care, such as patient insurance, home health and hospice.
- Precertifies insurance coverage for procedures and treatments ordered by the physician.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed. Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.
Minimum Experience:
Four (4) years healthcare experience preferred but not required;
Licensure Requirement:
LPN License, CNA certification preferred or MA certification preferred. CPR required.
