Frequently asked questions

Englewood's focus on energy and industrial projects creates a steady demand for Water Resources Engineers, especially those skilled in hydrologic and hydraulic design. The local market values expertise in flood modeling and stormwater systems, making it moderately competitive but promising for candidates with relevant experience.

While a PE license enhances prospects, many engineering employers in Englewood emphasize hands-on mastery of tools like HEC-RAS and ArcGIS. Certifications related to hydrology or GIS are advantageous. The region appreciates candidates who balance technical skills with practical water resource management knowledge.

Emphasizing expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, flood risk assessments, and proficiency with software like HEC-HMS, Civil3D, and QGIS can set you apart. Experience in site development, stormwater design, and data analysis from rainfall gauges is highly sought after within industrial energy projects.

This mid-level role demands not only technical skills in flood modeling and drainage design but also collaborative project execution alongside team leads. Unlike entry-level positions, it requires 3-5 years of specialized civil engineering experience and familiarity with advanced hydraulic software and data interpretation.

Progression often leads toward senior engineering roles or project leadership within energy and industrial firms. Mastery of advanced modeling, dam failure analysis, and renewable energy integration can open paths to specialized consulting, management, or involvement in decarbonization technology projects.

Sargent & Lundy’s award-winning benefits and commitment to hybrid work models enhance work-life balance. Their focus on cutting-edge energy projects, including decarbonization and renewable integration, provides engineers opportunities to engage with innovative technologies in a collaborative environment.

Balancing three days on-site in Englewood with remote work allows engineers to collaborate closely on complex site development tasks while maintaining flexibility. This setup supports deep focus on hydraulic modeling and data analysis alongside team interactions essential for project success.

Typical compensation falls between $72,690 and $106,250 annually, reflecting the specialized skills required. This range aligns with regional market trends for engineers experienced in hydrologic design, flood risk assessment, and energy infrastructure projects.

Programming skills enhance efficiency in data analysis and model customization, which are critical for complex hydrologic simulations and flood evaluations. Engineers familiar with Python or MATLAB can streamline workflows and improve accuracy in energy-related water resource assessments.

The energy industry in Englewood typically values engineers with several years of experience due to project complexity. However, entry-level roles exist, often requiring strong academic foundations and eagerness to develop expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and energy system applications.
