The Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) provides support to a team of cancer genetic counselors for Cancer Risk Assessment (CCRA). The CCRA identifies families that may have a hereditary cancer syndrome and provides genetic testing, screening and support. Responsibilities of the GCA include clinical, research and administrative duties. Individuals in this position will gain first-hand knowledge of patient care related to the field of cancer genetics.
Job Requirements
In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:
- Bachelor's - Biologic/Genetics / Health Sciences (preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2 years clinical experience in health care or genetics specialty preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills. Experience with Electronic Medical Records, database and spreadsheet software programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, department administrative staff, interdepartmental contacts and the public.
- Ability to plan and organize the workflow in a busy office/unit environment and be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to be flexible in response to changing demands.
- Ability to handle a high volume of work under pressure.
- Resourceful in problem solving, initiative and good judgment.
Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly
