This dual focus on patient care and graduate student education distinguishes the role from standard midwifery jobs that focus solely on clinical practice.

Emphasize your clinical expertise in full-scope midwifery, national certification, and state licensure, alongside your abilities in curriculum development, mentoring graduate nursing students, and integrating research with practice. Strong communication and proficiency with electronic medical records are also key in academic healthcare roles.

Beyond clinical duties, opportunities include advancing scholarly research, leading curriculum innovations in nurse-midwifery education, and engaging in interprofessional collaborations. Faculty members often expand their influence by contributing to healthcare policy or assuming leadership roles within academic and clinical settings.

Yes, OHSU requires AMCB certification, Oregon RN and nurse-midwifery licenses, along with BLS and NRP certifications. These ensure compliance with both state regulations and professional standards critical for faculty engaged in clinical teaching and patient care.

Exposure to infectious agents and physical demands like lifting and prolonged standing are also notable considerations in this role.

Certified Nurse-Midwife faculty roles in Portland typically offer salaries ranging from $95,000 to $130,000 annually, depending on experience and credentials. Academic positions like those at OHSU may also include benefits tied to teaching, research, and clinical practice responsibilities.

Portland's urban setting offers various commuting options, but traffic fluctuations can impact travel times to OHSU's campuses. Faculty often balance clinical shift schedules with academic duties, so proximity and transit access can be important for work-life balance.
