Job Summary and Responsibilities
Provides professional patient care and transportation in accordance with all departmental and St. Joseph Health System operating policies, city and state laws, and applicable contracts.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Personal, crew, patient and bystander's safety: scene size up, emergency scenes are dynamic events; the paramedic should always look out first for their safety and then the safety of others.
- Patient Assessment and delivery of care: provides patient care functions according to protocol, procedure and written directives to level of certification. Performs a patient assessment throughout a call on every patient encountered, providing appropriate treatment and transportation decisions within the P2 scope of practice.
- Synchronized cardioversion
- Medication administration of: Ancef, Dopamine, Etomidate, Fentanyl, Heparin, Labetalol, Metoprolol, Levophed, Phenergan, Rocuronium, Versed.
- MICU transports
- Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI)
- External Jugular vein access
- Surgical cricothyrotomyMaintains and improves skill level and knowledge base: attends/participates in 75% of annual departmental training and completion of annual Skills Competency Fair.
- Lifting and moving patients: ensure proper lifting, moving patients safely and effectively. Assist with movement of patients to and from stretcher and wheelchair.
- Transport and Transfer of Care: verifies patient identification prior to transport, contacts receiving facility prior to delivery along with providing a patient care report, also providing safe delivery to or from the hospital and aircraft. Transfer the patient to the appropriate facility and health care provider giving complete/accurate verbal patient care report.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- At least two years’ continuous experience with St. Joseph
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Texas Depart of State Health Services Paramedic License;
- Valid Texas Drivers license;
- BLS – within 14 days
