Job Objectives:
Provide direct nursing care to all patients assigned.

Responsibilities
- Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Assists with and documents patient/family health education.
- Assesses and identifies the patient's physiological and psycho-social problems and needs.
- Formulates/initiates nursing care plan which is consistent with the medical plan and accepted current standards of care and practice.
- Demonstrates principles of infection control; collaborates with infection control nurse to ensure safety of patients, visitors and personnel.
- Communicates patient's progress to team leader and advises team leader of patient situations which may require further assessment and/or intervention.
- Participates in the orientation of new personnel.
- Performs other indirect care duties as assigned.
- Follows directions accurately and efficiently.
- Performs nursing care according to accepted standards and hospital policies and procedures.
- NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties as assigned.
- HEALTH/SAFETY/COMPETENCE: Cannot pose a direct threat to health or safety of self or others. Must provide safe, efficient, competent care to customer or patient population assigned. Must demonstrate competency in the unit specific functions described in the performance continuum, skills lists and/or standards.
Qualifications
Education/Knowledge/Skills:
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing. Must have knowledge of:
For staff involved in the care of age-specific groups, knowledge of the bio-psychosocial needs of adult, geriatric and pediatric patients is essential. Special knowledge is required in growth and development needs of pediatric/geriatric patients where applicable.
Experience:
Previous experience in department specialty is preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
Must be currently licensed by the Tennessee Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or have a temporary permit to practice. Must be currently certified in the life support program(s) specific to unit(s) worked (CPR, ACLS, NALS) or must be recertified during orientation period.
