Frequently asked questions

Progression as a Lead Mechanical Engineer in Englewood’s oil and gas sector typically involves expanding technical oversight, mastering pipeline and facility design intricacies, and growing leadership in cross-disciplinary projects, which aligns well with Sargent & Lundy’s focus on project execution and mentoring.

Key skills include deep familiarity with ANSI/ASTM piping codes, dynamic compressor station design, process/hydraulic calculations, and corrosion protection strategies. Mastery in these areas supports compliance and operational excellence on midstream oil and gas facilities prevalent in the Englewood region.

Engineers often navigate complex equipment specifications, ensure piping constructability, and integrate system controls while balancing schedule constraints. Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams is vital to resolve design conflicts and maintain project milestones.

While based on a hybrid schedule with three in-office days weekly, occasional travel is expected to support field activities such as site commissioning, ensuring hands-on oversight and customer engagement typical of Sargent & Lundy's project approach.

Sargent & Lundy offers a competitive compensation range of $116,620 to $179,890 annually for this role, reflecting the local market demand and the specialized expertise required in mechanical engineering for oil and gas midstream projects.

Beyond a strong salary, the firm offers award-winning benefits including comprehensive health plans, paid leave, tuition assistance, and flexible work arrangements, cultivating a supportive environment for engineers balancing demanding project roles with personal well-being.

While a PE license is preferred, substantial experience in mechanical design for heavy industrial plants, along with knowledge of ANSI/ASTM B31 piping standards, is highly valued, ensuring compliance and engineering rigor in oil and gas projects.

Englewood’s proximity to Denver’s energy corridor maintains steady demand for seasoned mechanical engineers, though competition is notable. Professionals with midstream experience and strong leadership skills are particularly sought after in this regional market.

The blend of in-office collaboration three days per week with remote flexibility supports detailed design reviews and team communication, while field visits ensure practical oversight, aligning with the company’s emphasis on project execution excellence.

Engineers can progress through expanded project management responsibilities, mentoring roles, and involvement in business development, leveraging their technical expertise and client-facing experience to transition into senior leadership within the firm.
