Frequently asked questions

Everett's healthcare sector is growing steadily, increasing demand for Patient Care Assistants. While competition exists, employers like Catholic Health Initiatives actively seek certified PCAs, especially those with Washington state licensure, making this a promising location for job seekers in patient care roles.

In Washington, a current Medical Assistant - Certified (MA-C) license is crucial for PCA roles, especially in hospitals like Virginia Mason. Some employers accept interim certifications with a probationary period, but permanent licensure within six months is typically expected to comply with state healthcare standards.

Mastering clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, performing EKGs, and phlebotomy enhances a PCA's value. Developing strong communication for patient coordination and understanding insurance concepts can open pathways to supervisory or specialized medical assistant roles within healthcare systems.

PCAs uniquely blend hands-on patient care—like injections and blood draws—with managing patient flow and assisting providers. Unlike purely administrative roles, they maintain clinical responsibilities alongside scheduling and test reporting, requiring versatility in both medical and operational tasks.

PCAs in Everett typically earn between $18 and $24 per hour, depending on experience and certification status. Catholic Health Initiatives and similar employers offer competitive wages reflecting the region's cost of living and the specialized skills required for certified patient care roles.

Catholic Health Initiatives emphasizes comprehensive patient care supported by a robust network across Western Washington. PCAs here benefit from integrated team environments, diverse clinical exposure, and access to professional development within a compassionate, community-oriented health system.

Their commitment to quality patient care, extensive facilities, and support for certifications, like the MA-C license, attract PCAs. The organization also offers competitive benefits and fosters a collaborative culture, making it an appealing choice for healthcare professionals seeking growth in Everett.

Beginning as a PCA opens doors to roles such as medical assistant supervisor, clinical coordinator, or specialized technician. Gaining certifications and clinical experience in hospitals like Virginia Mason can accelerate advancement, especially in patient care coordination and healthcare administration.

Hospitals in Everett, including Virginia Mason, recognize equivalent military medical training, such as hospital corpsman experience, often expediting certification validation. This acknowledgment helps veterans transition smoothly into PCA roles, leveraging their clinical skills within civilian healthcare.
