Department Overview

The purpose of this position is to maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. As with all Custodial Services positions, this position is responsible for providing excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff. This position supports the organization's mission, vision, and values by adhering to the behavioral standards and core competencies of OHSU. Effective communication skills and ability to work effectively with people from various backgrounds are critical.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Floor Care and High Vacuuming/Dusting.
    • Cleans stairs, elevators, tile, concrete, rubber, terrazzo and all other floor surfaces. Sweeps, mops, scrubs and vacuums daily, weekly and monthly, as instructed. Floor care duties also include dusting of surfaces, cleaning of cove base, walls, wainscoting, transition pieces, kick plates on doors, lower door frames and corners/edges.
    • Maintains carpets by vacuuming, spot cleaning, and performing light and heavy carpet extraction, as necessary; Plans floor care preparation and use of equipment throughout the day; Performs minor carpet repairs, as necessary.
    • Maintains all floor care closets and equipment; Cleans equipment after each use and returns equipment to storage ready to use for the next shift; Floor care closets are to be clean and clutter-free at all times.
    • Performs high-level vacuuming of vents, ceilings, fixtures, and ledges using backpack vacuum, as instructed.
  • Cleaning and Sanitizing.
    • Performs daily cleans as assigned.
    • Cleans and sanitizes exam rooms, public areas, and office areas as directed by policies. To include: mopping; sweeping, vaccuuming, spot cleaning carpets; disposing of trash, biohazardous waste, and linen removal, cleaning and making beds, dust moping, wet mopping, damp wiping, high dusting.
    • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, sinks, tubs, showers, toilets, urinals, hoppers and mirrors.Cleans and sanitizes walls, windows, doorframes, window ledges and counters.
    • Cleans and make beds, dust mopping, wet mopping, carpet vacuuming, damp wipe furniture in public areas, offices, exam rooms and waiting areas.
    • Clean stairwells, elevators, breezeways, sky bridges and corridors. Clean cafeteria, canteen areas, locker rooms, exam rooms, offices, labs and waiting areas.
  • Waste Removal.
    • Empty and clean trash containers, wall mounted recepticles and restock all products.
    • Collects trash, linen, and trash carts from floors and disposes in designated areas.
  • Safely uses chemical cleaners, disinfectants, strippers, and waxes as instructed. Ensures appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 6 months of floor care experience using large equipment and floor care chemicals.
  • Must demonstrate a stable work history. Must be able to read, write, speak & communicate in the English language.
  • Must be able to read and understand procedures and instructions for proper chemical uses to safely perform tasks and projects
  • Must demonstrate consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Must be able to work in teams.
  • Must be able to competently use cleaning solutions and equipment.
  • Current Driver’s license and driving record that meets OHSU’s driving requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience preferred.

Additional Details

Busy enviroment with a lot of interuptions, multiple demands and people interactions. Must demonstrate regular attendance by coming to work on scheduled working days. Must be able to work independently and get along with all staff, visitors and patients.
