Overview
Under the direction of the nursing leader, the Nurse's Aide assists in performing a variety of duties related to the physical care of the patients, including obtaining report of patient assignments from the RN at the start of the shift and providing meticulous care to each child. Nurse's Aides are eligible for an evening and night shift differential and CNA certification pay.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining unit and patients’ rooms compliant with regulatory agency codes and standards, obtaining, recording, and reporting vital signs to RN.
- Changing patients to and from various adaptive equipment as recommended/directed by the therapists or RN, Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Assisting with or performing treatment procedures that have been predetermined for each patient, feeding or assisting with feeding of patients during meals/snacks,
- Assisting patients with diapering/toileting/showers as necessary, repositioning assigned patients to promote skin integrity, muscle tone, and maintain body alignment, maintaining excellent hand hygiene, adhering to precautions as required for each patient
- Maintaining professional boundaries and assisting the nurse during emergency situations.
Qualifications
- Prior relevant job experience in a pediatric setting preferred.
- Weekend and holiday commitment.
Education, Licensure, and Certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- CNA certification preferred
- CNA required for certain positions (LTC)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work long shifts, including nights and weekends, while maintaining a high level of care.
- Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely, often with the aid of equipment like lifts or slings.
- Ability to handle and operate medical equipment, as well as perform tasks such as taking vital signs or administering medications.
- Must be able to move/lift equipment and patients a minimum of 35-40 lbs.
- Must exhibit fine motor coordination in the manipulation of biomedical equipment (e.g., thermometers, scissors, etc.)
