Frequently asked questions

Englewood's proximity to Denver's energy corridor makes it a moderately competitive hub for lead electrical engineers in oil and gas. Candidates with over 10 years of focused experience in power plant design and system integration tend to stand out, especially when familiar with medium and low voltage systems.

In Colorado, possessing a Professional Engineer (PE) license can significantly enhance your profile in the oil and gas electrical engineering field. While not mandatory, it signals advanced technical competency and is often valued by employers managing complex industrial projects.

Senior electrical engineers in oil and gas excel in designing medium and low voltage distribution systems, conducting detailed power transient studies, and managing protective relay settings. Experience in equipment selection and overseeing system design integration is crucial for this level.

Engineers often advance from system design roles to leadership positions, managing multidisciplinary teams and client interactions. Gaining expertise in equipment specification and project coordination can pave the way for roles such as Lead Electrical Engineer or Project Manager within energy firms.

Lead engineers focus on high-level troubleshooting, project oversight, and mentoring junior team members, whereas junior engineers primarily execute design tasks. Leadership in ensuring project timelines, budgets, and compliance with codes distinguishes the lead role.

Sargent & Lundy offers a blend of traditional power plant expertise with cutting-edge decarbonization projects. Their hybrid work model and award-winning benefits foster a supportive culture, making senior engineering roles both technically challenging and employee-oriented.

The firm's focus on integrated system designs for oil & gas and renewable energy projects means Lead Engineers engage in diverse technical challenges, from equipment specification to carbon capture technologies, broadening their expertise beyond conventional power plants.

The typical compensation for this role ranges between $116,620 and $179,890 annually, reflecting the specialized skills in power plant design and system integration required. Total remuneration often includes bonuses and comprehensive benefits aligned with industry standards.

The three-day in-office requirement promotes effective coordination among engineers and designers working on complex oil and gas electrical systems, while remote days offer flexibility for focused tasks like calculations and report preparation, balancing productivity and teamwork.

Engineers often encounter issues related to aging infrastructure, integration of new technologies, and compliance with evolving safety codes. Navigating these requires in-depth knowledge of medium and low voltage systems and adaptive problem-solving skills tailored to the region's industrial setups.
