Candidates for this Lead Electrical Engineer 2 role must obtain a U.S. government security clearance, specifically a DOE 'Q' level. This requirement ensures trustworthiness for handling sensitive nuclear projects, reflecting the critical nature of electrical system design within federal energy and defense sectors.

Leading an engineering team in Richland demands strong coordination skills, technical expertise in electrical system design, and the ability to mentor junior engineers. Understanding local project timelines and regulatory codes is crucial, especially when working on nuclear and DOE-related initiatives.

Expertise in low voltage distribution systems, arc flash calculations, and equipment selection are key differentiators. The ability to independently review design drawings and perform detailed system analysis positions an Electrical Engineer 2 as a technical leader in nuclear power plant projects.

The salary range of $131,960 to $205,330 reflects competitive market rates for senior electrical engineers in Richland, WA. This band aligns with the specialized nuclear industry demand and the seniority level, further enhanced by comprehensive benefits and performance bonuses.

Sargent & Lundy offers a hybrid work model and emphasizes multi-disciplinary project leadership in nuclear waste treatment and DOE site support. Their award-winning benefits and focus on peer learning create a unique environment compared to firms that may not blend remote flexibility with deep government contract involvement.

Engineers contend with designing systems that comply with rigorous nuclear safety codes while managing complex material handling and waste storage. Coordinating detailed design phases under strict regulatory oversight requires balancing innovation with precision and adherence to evolving DOE standards.

While not mandatory, having a PE license significantly enhances prospects in Richland’s nuclear engineering sector. Local employers, including Sargent & Lundy, value licensure as it demonstrates verified expertise and commitment, which can be advantageous amidst competitive DOE-related projects.

Richland offers a balance of urban and suburban living with manageable commute options, including proximity to DOE facilities. The hybrid work arrangement at Sargent & Lundy supports flexible schedules, which helps engineers maintain a healthy work-life balance typical of the Pacific Northwest region.

Sargent & Lundy encourages advancement through mentorship, peer knowledge-sharing, and leadership in multi-disciplinary teams. Engineers gain exposure to high-profile DOE and NNSA projects, positioning themselves for roles with increasing responsibility in a sector focused on national security and environmental stewardship.

This role embodies a shift toward integrated system design and government collaboration, with a strong emphasis on security clearance and detailed electrical analysis. The hybrid work style and comprehensive benefits also mirror broader industry moves toward employee well-being and flexible work environments.
