Frequently asked questions

EP Technologists specialize in assisting cardiac and vascular interventions, operating complex imaging devices like c-arm radiation equipment. Unlike general radiologic techs, they work closely with interventional cardiologists during procedures, demanding advanced knowledge of cardiovascular devices and rapid response skills in emergencies.

Success requires proficiency in radiation safety, aseptic technique, and device handling like atherectomy and stent placement. Additionally, quick decision-making during STEMI or stroke alerts and familiarity with hemodynamic monitoring are crucial, especially in Lexington's high-paced medical centers.

Daily tasks include preparing sterile fields, operating imaging equipment during cardiovascular interventions, monitoring patient vitals, assisting nursing staff, and educating patients about procedures and cardiac risks. The role also involves maintaining procedural documentation and readiness for emergent situations.

Catholic Health Initiatives offers EP Technologists educational opportunities and hands-on training with advanced cardiovascular devices. Their supportive environment encourages clinical leadership development, preceptorship roles, and access to student loan forgiveness programs, fostering professional advancement.

This role integrates compassionate care rooted in faith-based values with cutting-edge interventional imaging technology. Employees benefit from a community-focused culture, a sizeable sign-on bonus, student loan aid, and affiliation with CommonSpirit Health's extensive network.

Lexington's growing healthcare infrastructure and aging population increase demand for EP Technologists. However, competition remains moderate due to specialized certification requirements and the need for advanced procedural skills, making experienced candidates highly sought after.

Holding a valid MRAD:KY license combined with credentials like RTR or RTCT is essential. Additionally, BLS-CPR and ACLS certifications are often mandatory, reflecting Kentucky's emphasis on patient safety and emergency readiness in cardiovascular care.

Candidates typically earn between $65,000 and $85,000 annually for full-time EP Technologist roles in Lexington. The offered $25,000 sign-on bonus and up to $24,000 in student loan forgiveness further enhance total compensation.

At Catholic Health Initiatives, EP Technologists contribute to compassionate, patient-centered care aligned with the hospital’s faith-driven mission. The culture emphasizes service excellence, teamwork, and continual skill development within a community-focused healthcare environment.

Technologists assist in procedures like PCI, PTCA, cerebral and visceral angiography, stent placements, pacemaker implants, and dialysis access maintenance, requiring precise operation of imaging equipment and familiarity with devices such as IABP, Impella, and embolic coils.
