In the Bronx, Surgical Coordinators often handle a high volume of diverse cases due to the area's dense, underserved population. This requires adept coordination skills and cultural sensitivity to manage complex scheduling and communication, setting the role apart from less urban or less diverse locations.
Coordinators in Bronx hospitals frequently navigate insurance authorizations, urgent procedure scheduling, and multi-provider communications. Balancing patient needs with limited resources and ensuring compliance with local healthcare policies are critical hurdles unique to this urban healthcare environment.
Candidates with a healthcare-related degree and 2+ years of surgical scheduling experience stand out. Proficiency in EHR systems, strong organizational skills, and CPR certification are highly valued, alongside familiarity with HIPAA compliance to thrive at Essen Health Care.
While CPR and First Aid certifications are essential, familiarity with New York State healthcare regulations and additional credentials like Certified Medical Manager (CMM) or Certified Healthcare Administrative Professional (cHAP) can enhance employability in NYC’s competitive job market.
The typical salary range for this role at Essen Health Care is between $18 and $22 per hour, reflecting both the demands of surgical coordination and the cost of living in the Bronx. This range aligns with similar healthcare coordinator roles in New York City.
Essen Health Care integrates Surgical Coordinators into a multidisciplinary team emphasizing population health, enabling coordinators to streamline pre- and post-operative care with access to telehealth tools and collaborative clinical resources, fostering comprehensive patient-centered coordination.
At Essen, Surgical Coordinators engage with multiple clinical divisions, including urgent care and homebound patient services. This variety ensures coordinators gain experience beyond scheduling, such as handling telehealth visits and collaborating across specialties in a community-focused system.
Demand for Surgical Coordinators in the Bronx remains robust due to the area's healthcare needs and growing community health initiatives. However, competition is moderate, favoring candidates with proven experience in surgical scheduling and strong interpersonal skills.
Surgical Coordinators focus heavily on procedure scheduling, insurance pre-authorizations, and detailed communication about pre- and post-operative instructions, contrasting with broader medical coordinators who might manage general patient flow and administrative duties without the surgical specificity.
