How you make a difference
The Psychiatric Licensed Practical Nurse (Psych LPN) is responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients with mental health disorders, administering psychotropic medications, and monitoring their effectiveness and side effects. They must have a deep understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders, as well as issues related to psychotropic medication compliance. This position requires obtaining and maintaining security clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric nursing services under the direction of the Psychiatrist and Director of Nursing, which includes contributing to assessments done by registered nurses, implementing specific treatments, and monitoring compliance with medication.
- Provision of medication education to inmates and training in human behavior and/or mental health issues to institutional staff as assigned by the Mental Health Director/Mental Health Coordinator/Director of Nursing.
- Provision of documentation in the health record of individual patient's treatment progress, participation in staff meetings and in-service training programs, and informing superiors of any need for additional clinical supervision or proposals to improve clinical services.
- Comply with employee standards, maintain confidentiality of inmate information, and network and communicate effectively with the company, Facility staff, and off-site support agencies.
- Respond to code or health emergencies within standard guidelines and provision of education to patients regarding health, nutrition, and other adaptive behaviors, with the goal of fostering personal growth and well-being.

- Must maintain CPR certification, and any other certifications (such as First Aid) required by contract
