Function/Duties of Position

The Division of Pediatric Neurology in the Department of Pediatrics at OHSU is seeking a full-time Pediatric Neurologist with fellowship training in Pediatric Epilepsy. OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (DCH) is the only pediatrics teaching hospital in the state of Oregon and the only center in the region offering comprehensive pediatric epilepsy care, supporting a Level 4 designation by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). The successful candidate will join a team of 16 Pediatric Neurologists (5 Pediatric Epileptologists), 2 Neurodevelopment and Disabilities (NDD) physicians and 5 Advanced Practice Providers to support the clinical and educational programs in Pediatric Neurology at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

The duties of this position include:

Clinical:  Provides excellent clinical care in the outpatient, inpatient, and outreach locations.  Provides care that is compliant with all regulatory guidelines (CMS, JCAHO, and American Board of Medicine) and shares clinical call and inpatient coverage with division colleagues. Primary responsibilities of this position include 1) providing evaluation and care for patients with seizures and seizure disorders in both ambulatory and inpatient settings (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) and 2) interpreting routine, ambulatory and inpatient EEGs.  Though epilepsy-related clinical activities will be prioritized, a limited amount of clinical responsibilities caring for patients on the general inpatient pediatric neurology service will be encouraged.  Clinical experiences occur at DCH, OHSU, and Shriner's Hospital, which are all on the OHSU campus as well as in other locations throughout the Portland metro area and State of Oregon. Close clinical and curriculum relationships are maintained with other disciplines including Neurodevelopmental Disabilities/Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, Child Psychiatry, Psychology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, and Adult Neurology.

Education:  Teaches residents, medical students and all trainees and support staff.  Teaching and mentoring trainees may be through lectures, presentations, rounds, shadowing, and participation in clinical courses.  The ability to give constructive feedback and demonstrate competence in teaching is required.

Scholarship:  Opportunities for scholarly activities that result in improved clinical practice, understanding, detecting and treating diseases or improving the education foundation within pediatric medicine or the neurosciences are available and strongly encouraged. 

Other duties:  Administrative and advocacy duties may also be assigned or sought within the division, hospital or academic department. Opportunities to lead clinical and academic program development within the division are available for the successful candidate and will be encouraged based on the candidate’s interests.

Required Qualifications

  • The candidate will have completed child neurology residency training in an accredited program and must be eligible for MD licensure in the States of Oregon and Washington. 
  • Board certification or eligibility for specialty board certification in Pediatric Neurology (ABPN) is required as is sub-specialty certification (or eligibility) in either Epilepsy or Clinical Neurophysiology. 
  • Demonstrated competence in clinical care and teaching is a must as is an interest in continuously improving the quality of care to all pediatric patients and their families.
