Job Summary and Responsibilities
- Plans and prepares foods according to recipes and time schedules.
- Works as a team member in pre-preparation, preparation, portioning, and storage of food. Assists on patient tray assembly line.
- Exercises quality control, including portion sizes and temperature standards. Monitors refrigerator and freezer temperatures in designated work areas.
- Logs information on production sheets and other records required in the department.
- Assists in food product evaluation, test trays, and environmental sanitation inspections.
- Maintains a high standard of sanitation in area of responsibility to comply with hospital management, local and state inspectors, JCAHO and CMS. Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas.
- Takes care of hospital equipment and reports any equipment that is not working properly or equipment that is not safe.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | If working in a unit located in or traveling to Iowa, or a Behavioral Health/Psych unit: Mandatory Reporter Adult and Mandatory Reporter Child - within 6 months; tracked through Learning system Must possess good cooking skills with restaurant or institutional background. Must show creativity, enthusiasm, and a consistent positive attitude. Must work well with others. Ability to read and write. Ability to calculate amounts of ingredients when adjusting recipes. Ability to interpret written instructions and follow through with oral instructions. Must complete Food Services Sanitation class or inservice. |
