Internship Location
This internship is located at the Steel Dynamics Techs Division located in Pittsburgh, PA, in the Safety Department. This internship will take place Summer 2026.

Responsibilities
What Are My Responsibilities as a Safety Intern at Steel Dynamics?
- Support the facility’s safety team by assisting with continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen safety culture and reduce risk.
- Participate in employee training and safety events, including new hire orientation, monthly safety sessions, and safety communications.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and documentation of safety programs in alignment with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
- Conduct and track safety audits, facility walkthroughs, and Job Safety Analyses, identifying hazards and supporting corrective actions.
- Contribute to incident investigations and reporting by gathering information, organizing data, and assisting with follow-up actions.
- Help maintain compliance records, prepare safety documentation, and support internal and external audit processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on safety-related projects, standard operating procedures, and risk assessments.
Qualifications
What Qualifications Do I Need?
- Candidate should be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in a safety related major.
- Preferred GPA of at least 2.7.
Willingness to conduct safety audits and inspections in an industrial environment.
Foundational knowledge of OSHA standards and general industry safety regulations.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, prioritize tasks, and recommend solutions.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, objectivity, and confidentiality.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
