Candidates with strong project management skills and familiarity with tools like Primavera P6 often stand out amid high demand, making early preparation essential for success in this competitive environment.

While not mandatory, certifications such as PMP or familiarity with Primavera P6 scheduling software are highly valued by Chicago-based employers. Developing proficiency in MS Excel and project tracking methodologies can also significantly boost your profile for internships focused on project controls within the city.

An Intern For Project Controls often dives deep into cost tracking, schedule monitoring, and project portfolio reporting rather than broad administrative tasks. They focus on ensuring timelines and budgets are adhered to, gaining hands-on experience with project management tools which distinguishes them from general project interns.

This internship sharpens organizational and analytical skills through real-world application of project controls principles. Interns get to expand their academic knowledge via active participation in scheduling and cost management, laying a solid foundation for future engineering project management roles.

Many interns transition into roles like project coordinators or junior project managers post-internship. The experience gained with project scheduling and team collaboration at Sargent & Lundy equips interns with a competitive advantage for advancing in various project management tracks within engineering industries.

Sargent & Lundy extends comprehensive benefits even to interns, including merit scholarships and employee referral bonuses. Their focus on well-being and professional growth, along with competitive hourly compensation, creates an enriching environment tailored for Project Controls interns.

While prior Primavera P6 experience isn't mandatory, familiarity with this scheduling software can greatly enhance your effectiveness and learning curve. It aligns well with project controls tasks like schedule tracking, making it a valuable asset during the internship.

Interns actively engage in monitoring project progress, assisting with cost tracking, and supporting reporting activities. This hands-on involvement offers a dynamic glimpse into power-related engineering projects, fostering practical insight beyond classroom theory.
