Overview
Legacy Maternal Fetal medicine is seeking a BE/BC MFM to join our well-established practice in the heart of Portland, Oregon. Our team currently includes 10 MFM physicians and 1 CNM-ANP, as well as 3 certified genetic counselors, 20+ sonographers and 3 dedicated MFM social workers. We have a collegial group practice model and strive to streamline our patient care through evidence-based practice guidelines. We have 4 day work week, providing inpatient and outpatient consultations and sharing weekend rounding responsibilities. We do not take in-house call, and labor management and deliveries are attended by an excellent team of OB Hospitalists.
Our office spaces are equipped with antenatal testing and AIUM-accredited diagnostic ultrasound units with the most up-to-date technology. We perform CVS and amniocentesis, with some providers also performing PUBS/IUT and D&E. We have a Fetal Therapy Program dedicated to streamlining the multidisciplinary care of our most complicated fetal cases, in conjunction with a full spectrum of pediatric subspecialists (cardiology, neurosurgery, general surgery, plastics and craniofacial, and urology).
We serve a diverse patient population in our various office settings, and also perform outreach to communities across eastern Oregon and southern Washington through a robust telemedicine and remote ultrasound program.
Our patients are cared for in the newly constructed state-of-the-art Family Birth Center at Randall Children’s Hospital. We work closely with the Randall Children’s Hospital NICU, a 45 bed Level IV NICU offering the highest level of care in the state for critically ill and preterm infants. Legacy Emanuel Hospital is a 554-bed tertiary medical facility that is well-known for its clinical excellence and specialty programs, including a Level 1 trauma center, a well-established Bloodless Surgery Program, and a full spectrum of adult sub-specialty programs. We also provide inpatient services at Legacy Salmon Creek Family Birth Center in Vancouver, Washington, a 5-star rated hospital that is also home to a 25-bed Level III NICU.
We are searching for a partner that will thrive in a collaborative group practice environment, with strong communication skills and dedication to evidence-based, patient-centered care. We value work-life balance and strive to cultivate a workplace atmosphere that is collegial and respectful.
We offer a competitive salary and a full array of benefits, as well as an opportunity to live in the beautiful and unique city of Portland, Oregon. The city is known for its world-renowned restaurants, expansive urban parks, bridges, bike paths, breweries and proximity to the diverse natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest (from the high desert to the Pacific coastline).

Frequently asked questions
In Portland, Perinatologists often collaborate with advanced NICUs like Randall Children’s Hospital’s Level IV unit, integrating multidisciplinary fetal therapy programs. The focus on telemedicine outreach to Eastern Oregon and Southern Washington also shapes care delivery, making high-risk pregnancy management more community-inclusive and technologically supported compared to some other areas.
Besides ABOG or AOBOG certification, Oregon Perinatologists must hold a valid state medical license with demonstrated competence in advanced obstetric ultrasound. Familiarity with regional fetal therapy protocols and experience with remote ultrasound programs enhance qualifications, reflecting Oregon’s emphasis on comprehensive maternal-fetal medicine.
Legacy Health’s collaborative environment allows Perinatologists to engage in multidisciplinary fetal therapy initiatives and leadership in telemedicine outreach. Growth can include leading specialized diagnostic imaging projects or contributing to evidence-based practice guidelines, fostering both clinical and academic development within a large MFM group.
Legacy Health offers a collegial group practice with no in-house call and a balanced 4-day workweek, which is rare locally. Access to cutting-edge ultrasound technology and a large NICU network supports comprehensive care, setting it apart from other Portland employers who may have more demanding schedules or less integrated fetal programs.
The institution’s 4-day workweek and shared weekend rounding reduce burnout risks. Legacy’s emphasis on collegial respect and evidence-based protocols streamlines clinical duties, enabling Perinatologists to focus on quality care without excessive administrative burdens, which is key for sustaining work-life harmony in high-intensity maternal-fetal medicine.
Perinatologists in Portland typically earn between $250,000 and $350,000 annually, influenced by Legacy Health’s competitive benefits and Oregon’s cost of living. This aligns closely with national figures but may skew slightly higher due to Legacy’s emphasis on expertise in advanced ultrasound and fetal therapy programs.
Proficiency in evaluating complex fetal anatomy and pathology via advanced obstetric ultrasound is essential. This includes expertise in procedures like CVS and amniocentesis, and understanding AIUM-accredited imaging standards, ensuring diagnostic precision and enhancing maternal-fetal outcomes.
Portland’s growing maternal-fetal medicine needs, coupled with Legacy Health’s expansive practice, make Perinatologist roles competitive but accessible for board-certified candidates. Demand is driven by increasing high-risk pregnancy referrals and telemedicine expansion into underserved areas, highlighting regional workforce growth.
Some may think the role entails constant on-call labor management, but Legacy’s model uses OB hospitalists for deliveries, allowing Perinatologists to concentrate on consultations and fetal therapy. This differentiation creates a more focused and less interruptive clinical workflow than often assumed.
With 10 MFM physicians, genetic counselors, sonographers, and social workers, Legacy provides a multidisciplinary network supporting comprehensive evaluations. Access to state-of-the-art ultrasound and fetal therapy programs enables personalized treatment plans, fostering advanced, evidence-based maternal-fetal care.
