Overview
The Stockroom Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of the store’s back-of-house inventory and stockroom processes. This position is responsible for overseeing the receipt, organization, and distribution of merchandise, maintaining accurate inventory records, and supporting the sales floor with timely replenishment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced retail environment.
This role will also perform other management duties as needed, such as opening and closing the store.
Responsibilities
Inventory & Stockroom Management
- Oversee daily stockroom operations including receiving, unpacking, and organizing merchandise.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely updates in the system.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate with management for replenishment needs.
- Ensure merchandise is properly labeled, stored, and rotated to minimize shrinkage and damage.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and train stock associates on stockroom procedures and safety protocols.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure productivity standards are met.
- Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
Sales Floor Support
- Coordinate with sales associates and managers to ensure timely restocking of shelves.
- Assist in setting up promotional displays and seasonal transitions.
- Respond to urgent product requests from the sales floor.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free stockroom environment.
- Conduct regular audits and participate in inventory counts.
Other job responsibilities as needed, including opening and closing the store when needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
- 2+ years of retail stockroom or inventory experience; supervisory experience a plus.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise up to 50 lbs.
- Proficiency with inventory systems and basic computer skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions
- Proficiency in retail management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to ascend/descend a ladder to retrieve and stock products on the shelf or to hang overhead banners/ product.
- Frequently positions self to retrieve and stock products in the stock room and sales floor and to place merchandise in bags.
- Must be able to constantly move around the store for prolonged periods to greet and assist customers.
- Must be able to frequently communicate with the customers in person, electronically, and telephonically.
- Must be able to frequently move merchandise that is 50 pounds or more to and from the stockroom to sales floor.
- Must be able to operate a Point-of-Sale system, registers and handheld devices efficiently and accurately.
